In my life, I had the privilege of looking after some elderly people, and although it was not part of my professional experience, I learned about the different aspects of being a caregiver for an elderly person. For five years I had been looking after my 78-year-old mother with Alzheimer's disease and my heart-diseased dad, who was type 1 diabetic, a neighbour with venous thromboembolic disease. In my past I was also a volunteer in a child centre for children with disabilities: cerebral palsy, down syndrome and visually impaired. I volunteered for 3 years and it was incredibly rewarding. For the last 2 years I have been working in senior health care professionally this time: as a live-in carer and Home Instead worker. I have also completed different courses including Children First Tusla programme, Safeguarding Adults at risk of abuse with National Safeguarding Office, Manual Handling and People Handling with HSE and Home Instead Induction Course......
